The Chinese Company DeepSeek seemed to have come out of nowhere this week. It Explode in the Financial Market bringing down tech giant Nvidia shares to 17% that's nearly $600 billion of its market value for the biggest one-day drop ever for a U.S. company.

The move by the Chinese company was so intense that even Nivida Praised them for their efforts calling it “an excellent AI Advacment" It rattles the US Dominance in AI so much so that US President Donald Trump described it as a wakeup call for US tech Industry. 

Remember USA Ban advance Chips to China making an excuse that they may build something beyond their control raising privacy concerns, an untrained, Uncontrolled Dragon.

Guess what to their Shock the Dragon is Out and Sets Uncle Sam running. Deepseek is the number one app on the Apple Store now for some days many developers download it entirely on their local machines and test and tweak it using an old Nvidia H800 and it's running smoothly. It can run even on Raspberry Pie a model Students use to test and learn about hardware. The computing will be slow but it runs.

It's All About the Cost Says Uncle Sam. 

For an LLM model like Open AI, if you want to download it on your servers and then train it locally, It will need high-cost GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) or TPUs (Tensor Processing Units) to Run It properly. It may take weeks or even months to complete the training which requires a continuous supply of electricity during training sessions which can cost you electricity bills worth Million of Dollars. Now openAI uses thousands of NVIDIA A100 or H100 GPUs, which cost $10,000 - $30,000 per unit. Running a thousand GPUs of such strength translates to electricity consumption equivalent to powering a small town for weeks or months.

The Result only Big corporations like Pfizer and Moderna can bear such expenses They need the help of AI to design their new vaccines and drugs by analyzing DNA and protein structures. Remember OpenAI’s GPT latest model is not trained on medical data, so they need their own AI from scratch and to achieve it they need all the latest Nvidia Hardware to do it.

Uncle Sam (USA) has been pushing this narrative for months now and Companies like Nvidia Made insane profits last year reflecting on their stock prices.

Here comes DeepSeek takes an old GPU like H800 only investing 6 million dollars and bang running the same model as Pfizer and Moderna consuming less energy and water. On top of that it is open source which means you can check and analyze yourself what process it uses. 

After DeepSeek the tech market is wide open any mid-range company can now integrate Al into their system which can create more opportunities for talented technical youngsters to learn AI engineering and get the opportunity to team up and build their own tech startup.

What We as Pakistanis Need to Do? 

Anyone interested in computers can now have a great opportunity to build a small tech Al development company learn and train their staff and use models like DeepSeek to integrate AI into their client systems people have already started doing that for instance Irfan Malik the founder and CEO of  Xeven Solutions. He was doing a project for a client all the results he said were coming out great but they got stuck on computing issues costing it much much more than what they could bear. They Shifted to DeepSeek and the results were great.

A word of advice don't go after any course seller. They will be in abundance learn from YouTube or Udemy for free tests and try yourself and follow experts like Irfan Malik who has the knowledge and expertise for handling projects but if you find out that even if he is selling something in the name of learning AI don't fall for it.
